Before Delivery Day: Yard Prep for Pet Owners
Do a Waste Walk — Twice
This is the single most important thing on the list. A bounce house floor is essentially a large vinyl tarp laid directly on your grass. Whatever is underneath stays underneath, pressed flat in the heat for the length of your rental, and then it gets rolled up into the same unit that goes to the next family’s birthday party.
Walk the setup footprint the evening before, then walk it again the morning of. Thick St. Augustine grass hides a lot more than you would think. Our crew lays a protective tarp under every unit, but a tarp does not solve what is already under it.
If we arrive and find waste inside the setup area, we have to ask you to clear it before we can lay the unit down — and that time comes out of your rental window. Skip the Lawn Treatment That Week
Plenty of Acadiana homeowners spray for fire ants or put down fertilizer in late summer. The American Veterinary Medical Association advises keeping lawn products away from pets and following label instructions on how long animals should stay off treated areas — and the same common sense applies to barefoot kids who will be in and out of an inflatable all afternoon.

Check the Gate — Then Check It Again
Delivery, setup, the party itself and takedown all involve a gate propped open and people walking in and out. That is four separate opportunities for a dog to slip out unnoticed. The American Kennel Club points out that frightened dogs commonly try to bolt when something loud and unfamiliar is happening, so this is worth taking seriously even with a normally calm animal.

Claws, Teeth and Vinyl: Protecting the Inflatable
Commercial-grade inflatable vinyl is genuinely tough, but it is not claw-proof. Pet claws are one of the standard causes of punctures listed in inflatable repair guides, and a dog that jumps up against a side wall or gets excited and paws at the mesh netting can absolutely open a hole.
A few firm rules keep everyone out of trouble:
- Never let a pet inside the unit — not even for a quick photo. Claws plus a bouncing surface is exactly how holes happen.
- Keep dogs away from the blower and cords. The blower runs continuously for your entire rental, and a chewed extension cord ends the party early.
- Don’t let pets lounge on the tarp while we are rolling out and setting up.
- If your dog digs, watch the anchor stakes. A dog worrying at a stake loosens the anchoring that keeps the unit stable and safe.
- Pick up bones, chew toys and rawhides from the whole yard. Kids will find them, and they end up inside the inflatable.
Like most rental companies, our agreement holds the renter responsible for damage beyond normal wear and tear. A pet puncture is one of the most avoidable kinds of damage there is — it just takes a closed door.
Where Should Your Dog Actually Be During the Party?
For most dogs, the honest answer is: inside, in a quiet room, with the door shut.
The AKC recommends giving a dog a safe haven away from the noise — a crate or familiar bed, a long-lasting chew or a stuffed toy to focus on, and background sound like a television or calming music to mask what is happening outside. That is almost exactly the right setup for a backyard full of shrieking kids and a blower running all afternoon.
Some dogs genuinely love a crowd and do fine outdoors. If yours is one of them, still keep them leashed or in a separately fenced section rather than loose among children sprinting between the slide and the snack table. Even a friendly seventy-pound dog can flatten a four-year-old at a dead run.
For cats, it is simpler: indoors, door closed, no exceptions. A cat that bolts during setup can be gone for days.

The AVMA advises unlimited fresh water and access to shade any time pets are outside, avoiding hot surfaces like asphalt that can burn paw pads, and knowing the warning signs of heat stress: excessive panting, heavy drooling, restlessness, unsteadiness, abnormal gum or tongue color, and collapse. Frequently Asked Questions
Can my dog stay in the backyard while the bounce house is set up?
Physically, yes — but we strongly recommend against it. Between the noise, the strangers, the open gate and the puncture risk, almost every family we work with is happier keeping the dog inside for the duration. If the dog must be outside, keep them leashed or in a fenced section well away from the unit.
Will you still set up if there is dog waste in the yard?
Not until the setup area is clear. It is a sanitation issue for the kids using the unit and for the next family who rents it. We will give you a few minutes to clear it, but that time comes out of your rental window, so it is much better to handle it the night before.
Can my dog go inside the bounce house for one picture?
No. We know it is a cute idea, but claws on a bouncing vinyl floor is one of the most common ways units get punctured, and the renter is responsible for that damage. Take the photo with the dog on a leash standing next to the unit instead.
What happens if my pet damages the inflatable?
Small punctures we can usually patch, but damage beyond normal wear and tear is the renter’s responsibility under the rental agreement. Call us right away if something happens — we would much rather hear it from you than find it at takedown, and a small tear caught early is a far cheaper fix.
Do I need to tell you I have a dog when I book?

Will the blower noise scare my dog?
The blower runs continuously and produces a steady, fairly loud hum for your entire rental. Noise-sensitive dogs usually settle better indoors with a fan, a TV or music masking the sound, which is what the AKC recommends for any sustained loud noise.
My yard has bare dirt patches from the dog. Can you still set up?
Usually yes. Bare patches and thin grass are fine as long as the ground is reasonably level and we can drive anchor stakes into soil. What we cannot work with is deep holes a dog has dug — fill those in a few days ahead so the ground has time to settle.
Can I set up on the driveway to keep the dog’s grass area free?
Yes, we set up on concrete regularly using sandbag anchoring instead of stakes. Just be aware that a hard surface in Louisiana sun gets extremely hot, which is another reason to keep pets off it. Let us know when you book so we bring the right anchoring.
